The Rangers have played on the site of the present Ibrox since 1899. The Main Stand, which was designed by Archibald Leitch, was built in 1929.

The stadium as it is today began to take shape between 1978 and 1981 when the old oval shape was demolished and the Copland, Broomloan and Govan Stands were built. Another tier, seating 7,000, was added to the Main Stand in 1990/91, called the Club Deck it cost £20m.

The two enclosures in front of the Main Stand were also seated in 1994, giving the stadium an all-seated capacity of 46,888. The capacity has recently been increased to 51,000 by filling in the corners at either end of the Govan Stand. The bottom half is seated, with giant TV screens in the top half. In addition, the Stadium has been reseated in blue, giving it a more corporate look.

Plans are being drawn up to add another tier to the Govan Stand, boosting the capacity still further to 64,000.
